Ask Me Anything Q&A with Dr. Alex Dimitriu
Sleep expert Alex Dimitriu, MD answered common sleep challenge questions during a one-hour Ask Me Anything Q&A session I hosted for my company Stamina Lab, where we are working to help people improve their performance and enhance their wellbeing. The full webinar recording is now available.
Questions included:
👉 I have a big event in the morning or a work presentation, how do you manage anticipation, worry or excessive rumination when trying to get to sleep the night before?
👉 What are best practices to get a quality 7-8 hours of sleep?
👉 What do you recommend for a bedtime ritual?
👉 How does a night owl become a morning person?
👉 How does sleep help your sex drive?
👉 Is there a way to overcome sleep apnea without using a CPAP?
👉 If I'm doing all the things that are being recommended, but I am regularly waking up 2-3 times in the middle of the night, what are some habits or methods you can do when having these issues?
👉 What do you think about drinking wine before bed? Does alcohol affect our sleep and how?
👉 I've been dependent on Ambien for over a year. Any suggestions how to get off of it?
👉 Xanex seems to be the only thing that relaxes me before bed. I'm afraid of it being habit forming since I've been on it since November. Any advice?
👉 My struggle is letting go of the day and allowing my body to relax. I'm a mother of two very different but challenging strong willed children. I feel there is not enough of me to go around and when could I possibly find time for myself, much less a good nights sleep?
👉 What is the optimal amount of REM sleep and Deep sleep?
👉 What about menopause and sleep issues?
👉 I'm stressed and wake up at 4 in the morning, I'd love to get the remaining two hours of sleep I have available. Getting to sleep isn't the problem, it's waking up too early that is the problem. Does this have a name and is there a remedy?
